Rick Carlton is Director and Associate Professor of Radiologic and Imaging Sciences at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A past president of A.E.I.R.S., he also founded Lambda Nu, the national honor society for radiologic and imaging sciences, and has taught for more than thirty years. Author of twenty books, Rick also founded two professional journals, has been a J.R.C.E.R.T. site visitor for thirty years, and has given presentations around the world. He earned an M.S. from National Louis University, a B.S. from The Chicago Medical School, and an A.A.S. from Illinois Central College. He is A.R.R.T. certified in C.V. and radiography.

Arlene Adler has been Professor and Director of the Radiologic Sciences Programs at Indiana University Northwest for more than three decades. A member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and Fellow of the Association of Educators in Radiologic Sciences (A.E.I.R.S.), Ms. Adler has also authored several articles and textbooks on the radiologic sciences. She earned her B.S. in Radiologic Sciences from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School and an M.S. in Education from the University of Illinois.

The competent-infant view has an intuitive appeal, attested to by its widespread popularity, and it enjoys a kind of parsimony: It avoids the supposed philosophical pitfall posed by having to account for novel forms of knowledge in inductive learners. But this view leaves unaddressed a vital challenge: to understand the mechanisms by which new knowledge arises.

This challenge has now been met. The neoconstructivist approach is rooted in Piaget's constructivist emphasis on developmental mechanisms, yet also reflects modern advances in our understanding of learning mechanisms, cortical development, and modeling. This book brings together, for the first time, theoretical views that embrace computational models and developmental neurobiology, and emphasize the interplay of time, experience, and cortical architecture to explain emergent knowledge, with an empirical line of research identifying a set of general-purpose sensory, perceptual, and learning mechanisms that guide knowledge acquisition across different domains and through development.

The TWO STAR rating is for the embaracing printing of this latest edition. The print looks like a cheap mimeograph copy from the 1950s and the photo reproductions are very poor. Please do yourself a favor and get a used copy of ANY earlier edition. This is a book you will treasure and reread several times.

Holy crap, these stories are intense! I'm so glad that this book was written; for anyone who feels like a "freak" for identifying with fictional characters, this one is a must. The stories are human and thoughtfully written. I don't know why one has never come out before. There are some real eye-openers, like "Wayward AF" by Kim Rhodes and "Stroke Of Luck" by Rob Benedict, not to mention "My Hero Wears A Beanie" and "Sober For Sam". But it's Jared Padalecki's story that really hit me hard. I read it twice crying both times because I've totally been where he is. I am in awe of the honesty and bravery of his essay and truly appreciate how hard it must have been for him to write it and share it with us. Thank you so much, Jared. And thank you, Lynn Zubernis for writing this and making me feel less like a freak! Now I understand WHY I identify the way I do. I am empowered!

To be honest, I bought the book because, well, Supernatural! (duh!) I've been a fan of the show for a few years and have fallen in love with two brothers from Kansas who spend their time fighting monsters, "saving people, hunting things." At the same time, I fell in love with two guys from Texas who have shared so much with us, the Supernatural fandom. They're young enough to be my own; I'm so proud of all they manage to do for the Show, the fans, their families, all of it. That they and their friends are willing to share with us what this fandom, this family, means to them is special. The words written by fans and crew, folks we don't know? Some of whom we've never heard of? As Dean Winchester would say, "Awesome!"Lynn Zubernis does a wonderful job pulling together heartfelt stories from cast, crew, and fans alike. I laughed, cried, and then laughed while I cried. It's that good. She put the book together in a way that it flows, up and down, meandering through topics (some funny, some heart-wrenching, all good) gently and smoothly. At the same time, you can read a chapter and put it down to come back to later. No need to rush through it. (And there are several side articles that explain a few of the charities and organizations that some of these people started/are a part of. This is the book you will show people when they tell you the cast members don't actually care about you and that the "SPNFamily" isn't a real thing. This book is a flashlight illuminating the dark parts of ourselves as people (not just as fans or actors) that we're oftentimes afraid to examine.When you read this book (which you will) please read it with an open heart and an open mind. Do not be afraid to look at the dark parts. Do not avoid the things that will make your heart skip a beat, tears form in your eyes, and your breath catch in your throat. Do not be scared to quietly whisper "Me too," as you read these compelling stories of people finding their home and their hearts in this fandom. This is the book that screams "YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND YOU ARE LOVED" as loudly as it can with so many different voices.

Awesome. Inspiring. What else is there to say? The Fannish Professors have created another great book, amassing the words from and some great pics of our favorite actors--from the best show ever. There are essays from plain old fans, too--just as amazing, and truly touching. In fact, in true SPN fashion, some of the essays and stories even made me cry.Better, this books speaks to some issues that many of us--for whatever reason--seem to possess: anxiety and depression. I ended up giving my copy to my daughter (age 19), who was recently diagnosed after suffering debilitating panic attacks. "We" are not alone! This book proves it--we're not just a fandom--we ARE a family!

I can't begin to describe how grateful I am to have gotten this book. I've dealt with depression, anxiety and social anxiety and started watching Supernatural as a simple distraction. And through this book, I found that I'm not the only one who found so much more within the show and through the cast and crew. Through the SPNFamily. I was left with the feeling healing, comfort, and hope after reading it.

I have not even gotten 1/2 way through this book, and it has touched me so deeply. This goes way beyond any previous ideas most people have of fandoms. Like the show, the messages are clearly positive. Never give up, and you are not alone. Geeks and dorks unite - there is nothing wrong with being true to who YOU are. Very personal and touching. An unexpected jewel.

I started out reading Jared's chapter(sorry I know you aren't suppose to skip to the end LOL) and was crying by the end of it. So beautifully written and heart felt. I have now gone back to the beginning and am reading the rest of the stories. I recommend this book not only for Supernatural fans but for any other fandom that wants to learn what it can truly mean to have a community/family. Would LOVE to have a part 2!

For a tiny book, it is astoundingly thorough. I love small print. It is a completely different entity from Pocket Medicine (I have the last two editions), so it would be unfair to compare both. The topics are arranged in a manner suited for intensive care practice or rotations. For students (as myself), I suggest you pair Pocket ICU with Marino's ICU (I have the big version), which explains concepts and principles. I believe neither is superior but complementary. I read Marino's at home because it's bulky or too wordy to scan before bedside rounds. But I refer to Pocket ICU during the shifts.

Excellent book and came in great condition.

This book was great for my ICU rotation because I could look up anything very quickly! I also read from the little ICU book if I needed a more in depth explanation.

Great summary of common ICU problems, quick look up of differential diagnosis and management during morning rounds.

Loved the completeness of each topic and the flow of the text.

I would absolutely recommend this book for every medical professional, but especially for medical students who are doing an ICU rotation. I have been shocked (in a good way) with how comprehensive the information is and how straightforward it is presented. I found it better than even Marino's "Little" ICU book.
